Visual Arts 2021

While being a challenge for students in 2021, learning their visual arts curriculum remotely has also provided that much needed creative outlet and opportunity to express themselves in the comforts of their own homes (when not in face-to-face classes of course).

Not having access to the well-stocked supply room of the art faculty when in remote learning, students were not deterred, and instead became innovative problem solvers, adapting to the resources available to them at home and making creative choices that ultimately influenced their personal art style. This also made it that much more exciting to be back in classrooms and utilising the materials and equipment to complete some of their artworks.

It wasn't all bad, as remote learning also provided a more relaxed environment for students to further their understanding of the key vocabulary and theoretical underpinnings of the skills and knowledge associated with the visual arts too.

Throughout their second unit of exploration, Year 7 students developed their colour mixing skills by looking at primary, secondary and tertiary colours. They used these to then mix tints, tones and shades by adding white, grey and black to their colours. This allowed students to have a strong understanding of the ratios of paint and specific hues required to match the colours in a fractured famous artwork.

Here are the results of three famous artworks that students collaboratively contributed to, each student painting a single section that was fractured into smaller pieces, as can be seen in the sections left blank.
